Top 5 New Age Patriotic Movies to watch this Independence Day

Patriotic movies have been made in Bollywood from time to time and on various themes ranging from wars to freedom struggle. These movies have very well portrayed the deep sense of patriotic love we inherit for the country. So we thought of making a list of top 10 patriotic movies which you can’t miss to watch.

1. Rang De Basanti:

This movie is about the awakening of the younger generation towards the government – about taking a stand for what’s correct and fighting for it till the last breath. It’s also about friendship and living your life on your own terms. The story revolves around few college going friends who seem to have least interest in life outside the campus and enjoy the company of each other till they met Sue, an English film maker who wants to create a movie out of incidents depicted in the diary of his grandfather on the life of some of the great freedom fighters -Bhagat Singh, Chandrashekhar Azad, Shivaram Rajguru, Ashfaqulla Khan, and Ram Prasad Bismil. The movie changes pace when one of their friend gets killed in an air accident while riding a fighter jet for the country and defence ministry refuses to accept the mistake of buying the faulty aircrafts after which they decide to revolt against the government. The movie broke many box office records worlwide. It’s beautifully made by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra and the actors who have worked in have outperformed which reflects on screen.

2. Swades:

If you talk about the movies based on patriotism which doesn’t make you leave your motherland, you just can’t forget this masterpiece by Ashutosh Gowariker. A scientist from NASA visits India to meet his mother. In his pursuit to find her, he visits a village Charanpur where her Amma has been staying with a girl named Gayatri and his small brother. After seeing the condition of the village, where practices such as casteism prevailed and girls are considered lesser then boys; Mohan (Shah Rukh Khan) tries his best to bring a change in the village with the help of few people and meanwhile he falls in love with Geeta. He also plans to build a self sufficient hydro electric power plant for the village and succeeds. He then has to leave for USA and requests his amma and Geeta to come along with her but when refused, he moves alone. Later he realise, how much he missed his country, Amma and Geeta; which makes him come back India forever. Its though a simple movie but it will stay in your heart forever and ever.

3. Lagaan:

Once again Ashutosh Gowariker hits and this time he hits six on every ball with his classic movie titled, Lagaan. Cricket and rebel against British Empire – this combo can never go wrong and it didn’t when we saw Aamir Khan as Bhuvan making a cricket team along with other villagers to revolt against Britishers for the Lagaan (Tax) they had to pay the Britishers every year. The cricket match that turned out to change the due coarse of British Rule on India. Every indian would have watched this movie many a time and even when it comes on television,you just can’t skip the channel, it beholds your breath till the end. The movie will stay fresh on your mind forever.

4. Chak De India:

The sorry state of non-famous National Sport of India,  is portrayed in this movie. The Indian women’s hockey team, divided by their own competitive natures and individual prejudices meet an ex- Indian hockey player who carries a stigma of non faithful Indian hockey player. He is appointed as coach of the Indian women’s hockey team, which has “no future”. Kabir Khan ( Shah Rukh Khan ) brings all players to make them play as a team. The last few minutes of the movie will surely get you goosebumps. Motivational patriotic movie that you won’t be able to forget!

5. Lakshya

A film portraying the life of a slacker – Hrithik Roshan, who’s unsure of ‘lakshya’ in his life. He tries to get into army but the rigid lifestyle makes him run away from there too. Due to this same behaviour, he lose his girlfriend. He again decides to join army and comes out with flying colours. This fictional story revolves around the Kargil War where Karan (Hrithik Roshan) finds his Lakshya to conquer the hill captured by Pakistani Army. At the end he finally achieves his Lakshya. This Farhan Akhtar movie will attract the younger generation with masterclass performance by Hrithik Roshan and brilliant direction & narration.
