Every person has an idol who he admires throughout his life and a dream to be associated with him for once. Srijan Pal Singh, was among the lucky ones.
One evening, his dream came true when he had a chance to interact with his idol, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam over a dinner at IIM-A. Mr. Kalam was impressed by him. Srijan rejected the MNC job offer and decided to work as an intern for Abdul Kalam.
Mr. President gave him the exposure of implementation of the social initiatives and provided him an understanding about various problems associated with social development. He also gave Srijan a complete freedom to build on his ideas. Srijan also became the advisor of Mr. Kalam.
Srijan has co-authored “Target 3 Billion”, a best seller book with Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, where he worked on the concept of PURA (Provision of Urban Amenities in Rural Areas) and possible solutions to achieve it. PURA had been taken up as a major national program by Government of India which would be a network that will link up various rural and small scale enterprises, support a better lifestyle in rural areas through capacity building, skill development and business generation.
In 2014, Srijan co-founded the initiative, Barefoot IT. The key goal of the Barefoot IT initiative is to empower people at the bottom of the pyramid by creating a platform that brings together technology, policy makers and other key stakeholders through active problem identification and analysis so as to come up with innovative solutions.
Srijan has also co-authored, Delhi Metro : Excellence in Management, published by UNDP, where he has discussed the management strategies for Delhi Metro’s success as an example of management excellence for the entire world.
Srijan Pal Singh was very close to Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam. He was on the same stage with Mr. Kalam when he collapsed and passed away. He narrated his grief and recalled his last memories with Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam on facebook
“What I will be remembered for.. my memory of the last day with the great Kalam sir…”
