List Earthquakes of India which were high on richer scale

Earthquakes, also called temblors, can be so tremendously destructive, it’s hard to imagine they occur by the thousands every day around the world, usually in the form of small tremors.

The Indian subcontinent has a history of earthquakes. The reason for the high frequency and intensity of earthquakes is the Indian plate driving into Asia at a rate of approximately 49 mm/year.[1]The following is a list of major earthquakes of India which crossed the richer scale above 8.

1) Indian Ocean Earthquake, 2004

Casualties : around 283,106 ( Including deaths in Indonesia, India, Maldives, Sri Lanka and Somalia )

Casualties : 1,500

5) Gujarat Earthquake, 1819

Date : 4th April, 1905

Time : 18:45 to 18:50 local time

Magnitude : 8.2

Epicentre :  Rann of Kutch

Casualties : >1,543

6) Andaman Islands Earthquake, 1941

Date : 26th June, 1941

Time : 08:50 IST

Magnitude : 8.1

Epicentre :  12.50°N 92.57°E

Casualties : 7,000

7) Bihar-Nepal Earthquake, 1934

Epicentre :  10 km south of Mt. Everest

Casualties : >10,000

Though following above are only making into the list because of their magnitude but not to forget there were many other earthquakes which we can’t omit out of the list when we take death trolls into accountability, Major ones were Gujarat earthquake (7.7 magnitude ) on 26th January, 2001, Kangra earthquake on 4th April, 1905 ( 7.8 Magnitude ) and many more.
